Webinar Description

GBR is a technique used to regenerate bone in areas where it has been lost due to periodontal disease, trauma, or other factors to facilitate prosthetically driven implant placement. It is often believed that the membrane plays a crucial role in GBR by creating a barrier that promotes bone regeneration and prevents soft tissue invasion.

This is primarily based on the concepts derived from Guided Tissue Regeneration surgery for periodontal defects. An extensive review of the recent literature shows that in fact this barrier concept may be incomplete. This lecture will summarize the literature and provide insightful advice as to when a membrane is truly needed and if yes which membranes are best suited to enhance GBR outcomes.
