Clinical Discussion Description

In this session, Dr. Fien and Dr. Kim we will review the principles of hard and soft tissue management for dental implants to achieve long-lasting esthetic and functional success. 

Specific techniques to maintain anatomic soft tissue contours around dental implants will be reviewed in detail as well as techniques that can be used to predictably regenerate deficient hard and soft tissue contours to simplify treatment and improve long-term treatment outcomes.

Dr. Matthew J. Fien, DDS

Dr. Matthew J. Fien graduated from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 2006. He received his specialty training in periodontics from Nova Southeastern University and his diplomate status from the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry in 2009.

Dr. Fien has completed a number of research projects which have led to his work being published in various peer reviewed dental journals, including the Journal of Periodontology, the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, and the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. He is actively engaged in several clinical research studies in the fields of Periodontics, Implant Dentistry, and Tissue Regeneration.   In addition to research projects, he has begun speaking as an expert extensively on guided bone regeneration and soft tissue grafting. 

Dr. Fien enjoys being a part of the dental community on Instagram.  He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology and the Academy of Osseointegration.  Born and raised in North Miami Beach, when Dr. Fien isn’t busy helping his patients, he’s out on the tennis and basketball courts with his wife and two sons.

Dr. John Kim, DMD, MS, PA

Undergraduate degree (honors) in Biology - University of Virginia in 1999. D.M.D. degree from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2003. 2006 - earned his M.Sc. in Periodontology as well as Certificate of Advanced Study in Periodontology from the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill.
